I Want To Have A Yard Sale!
« Thread Started on Apr 19, 2004, 2:38pm »

When we get into the new place I want to have a yard sale. I'd love to do it before, but there isn't enough time. I am packing away the things to yard sale and I will set that stuff aside. I don't have any clothes racks to display the clothes. Any suggestions? Where would I get those? What isn't sold is going to be donated! We normally do this periodically anyhow, clean out and donate. At this time we do need the money, so we will see how it goes.

OK. Tip time! Please. ;)

Krystal, I have only had two yard sales but have been to hundreds lol, they are alot of fun and profitable. Of course they are also alot of work. My dh strung a rope between two trees (as tight as possible) and I was able to hand every clothes item we had. Clothes sell better when they are hanging.
The little dot stickers for pricing items really help. I have seen people use masking tape. But the sun heats up that tape and it sometimes leaves gooey stuff on the clothes etc.
Put some "attention getters" right out front. Like a big item you are trying to sell or balloons on trees or mailbox. How you display things is a big help too.
Most "serious" yard sale shoppers come early so be prepared!
Good Luck and I wish I could go to your sale!!
Blessings, Mia

I decided about a week ago to have a yard sale.... hopefully in a couple of weeks. We have donated a lot of things that could have been sold, but I have some furniture and other items that need to go and some baby things too.

This can be such a big job. Before we moved back east from Arizona we had a yard sale for 3 weeks. It was ongoing, only closed for Sabbath. We sold so much stuff. We had such a high from making money we kept bringing stuff out to sell. There was only one item I regret getting rid of. I have read that if you get rid of a third of your things that you'll live a happier, healthier life! I think we accomplished that, but now it is time to purge again. I am to the point that unless we really need it I don't want to even think of buying it.

I used to go to yard sales every week, but lately, like I said, I can't stand the thought of bringing more stuff into our home to store/ clean up/ catch dust/ or trip over! I cannot stand clutter.

That is exactly the point I'm getting to Melissa! It is driving me nuts! We are going ahead and taking the things to the attic at the new house. (Well, new to us.) As soon as we can start the yard sale we will. At least it will be out of the way! :)

We are going to run an ad for the yard sale for this Sunday - Rain or Shine! I have gathered a nice amount of stuff and will continue to add to it through out the week. I hope we make a little money. I get to use the money we make to buy a few things that I want for the house or garden. :)

Are you completely moved into your new home? Are your girls excited about their new rooms? I hope your family has many happy memories to be made there! :)

Our yard sale has done really well today. We have made a lot of money already and we still have a good bit of stuff left. My husband keeps going through the basement and bringing up more and more stuff to get rid of. And our garage will be clear for the car when it is all over. Yea! It is going to feel so good not to have needless junk sitting around the house.
